20th March 2002 - Convergence Dinner

An inaugural convergence dinner, organized on 20th March 2002 and hosted by AAS at Concorde Hotel, saw the gathering of the representatives from fifteen different Australian university alumni for a brainstorming and question and answer session on uniting all the various university alumni together under one umbrella group.

This dinner cum discussion was a result of the 3 Cs (Convergence, commitment and challenge) plan that was part of the AAS goal to explore ways in which the AAS and the various university alumni can unite, forge synergy and work together to achieve greater benefit for all our members. With a potential membership of 100,000 (and growing each year), the AAS and the various university alumni represent a sizeable and educated group of Australian trained professionals. Upon consolidation, based on our size and profile, we will be then be in a better position to negotiate for privileges and discounts from other organisations and retailers. The convergence speech was delivered by the project chairman, Mr. Alfred Shee, before a panel was formed to answer questions fielded by the various representatives from the floor. The panel members comprised of Dr Patrick Fernandez, Dr Anthony Chung, Prof. Brian Lee and Leslie Wong.
